Compo 3 by Ruying

A Robbery
"Wow!” I squealed in delight, “what a beautiful necklace!” I exclaimed. I was in a jewellery shop choosing a necklace for my mother’s birthday. As I looked through the variety of necklaces, a sparkling diamond necklace caught my attention. "Miss, can I see this necklace?”I asked excitedly. I took it and tried it. I looked at the mirror. “Wow!” I exclaimed. The necklace sparkled under the light.” Mum would definitely like it!” I said in a high glee.
Out of the blue, two muscular men dashed into the shop. They were very tall and had broad shoulders. They had a shock of disheveled, long and greasy black hair and a pimply, sun-tanned face. They wore black T-shirts and dark blue trousers. One of them whipped out a sharp knife out from his trousers pocket. My heart almost stopped and I started at the sight of the blade glimmering under the light. He grabbed hold of my hand and pulled me to a corner, pressing the knife against my neck. Now, cold sweat trickled down my forehead. My hands felt clammy and my legs turned wobbly. My heart pounded at an amazing speed. All the other shoppers were shocked and their face turned pale. I prayed to God, “God, please help me.” Then, the robber ordered the other shoppers, “Put your hands on your heads and squat down. Then go to the corner, if not, I will kill this young girl.” Everyone scurried to the corner and squatted down. They were all trembling. The other robber took out another knife, smashed the glass and took the jewelleries. Not satisfied, he snatched the shoppers’ bags including mine and took out our valuables.
Just then, a passer-by saw the robbers. Quickly, he hid behind the tree. Without hesitation, he called the police. Soon, siren of the police car pierced the air. Fast and quick, the police ambushed the whole place. After a while, they saw the robbers coming out of the jewellery shop with a smile on their face. There were two sacks with them. As quick as lightning, the police appeared and caught the robbers. This time, the robbers could not escape.

I heaved a sigh of relief. God has answered to my prayer! We thanked the passer-by for his quick action and the police for coming in the nick of time. All our valuables were recovered. After this incident, I decided not to go to a jewellery shop without someone with me.

Compo 2 by Justlyn Yeo

A Robbery

It was a lovely and cool afternoon. I was doing window-shopping when I saw a sparkling necklace. It was glimmering through a window and I was attracted to it. I walked into the shop. An woman with a fat freckled face greeted me, “ Good afternoon madam, may I help you?” I nodded my head and sat down on a cushion. I was admiring the sparkling jewelleries when I spotted the brilliant necklace I saw through the window. I pointed to it and the woman took it out to show it to me. “ We are having an offer for this necklace now. It was actually priced at nine hundred and ninety- nine but we are now selling it at seven hundred and seventy- seven dollars. It is really a good buy…,” the woman said. I took the necklace and tried it on…

Out of the blue, two men dashed into the jewellery shop. Both were armed and were wearing black masks. One of them shouted coldly, “surrender or die!” his voice was greasy and rough. In a flash, the other man’s hand caught hold of me. I was shivering in fear. He screamed at the top of his voice at the other hostages who were huddled in a corner, “ Do not move an inch or we’ll kill her!” he took up his gun and pointed it at me. The other man took up a huge brown sack and broke the jewellery caskets. He grabbed the jewelleries and threw them into the sack. The saleswoman tried to call for help but the man with the sack, pointed his gun at her. She quietly squatted down and raise her hands. I saw a passer-by passed by and I tried to scream for help. I screamed at the top of my voice. “Help! Help!” The two masked men pointed their guns at me. Luckily, the passer-by heard me. Without any hesitation, he took out his cell phone and dialled for the police.

After what seemed like eternity, the sirens of the police cars pierced the air. The two masked men grew terrified and tried to run, but the police had already ambushed the place. The robbers pointed their guns at the police. Bullets flew through the air and one policeman was shot. The paramedics quickly came and brought him to the hospital. Soon, the battle was over. The police handcuffed the robbers and brought them back to the police station. Then, the policemen came in to check if anyone was hurt. We thanked the policemen and the passer-by for saving our lives in the nick of time.

A Burglary

It was a dark and spooky night. “Ding, dong…” the clock struck twelve midnight. The shining stars gazed at the earth unblinking. A masked burglar crept steathily into Mr. Kim’s bungalow. The burglar had an unkempt dressing, a scar on his forehead and was thin and tall. He pried opened the side door’s lock skillfully. He had successfully broken in! He crept up into Mr. Kim’s bedroom to make sure both Mr. Kim and his wife were asleep.

Then, he went into the living room and started ransacking the place using a torch. He searched the drawers, then the cabinets. He searched and searched but to no avail. So he went to the other side of the room. But on his way there, his light on his torch went off. Just then, he tripped over the cord of a telephone, causing the whole telephone to drop onto the floor. He also fell down. “Crash!” they made a loud sound altogether. Mr. Kim woke up, startled. He went out to see what had caused the sound. He was trembling all over.

When he saw the burglar, his jaw dropped and he thought his heart had stopped beating. Still, he acted fast. He soon thwarted the burglar. His wife, who had heard the noise, woke up. She called the police.

In a twinkling of an eye, the sirens of the police could be heard. Suddenly, the burglar broke free! He ran out of the house. But unfortunately, the officers had been waiting in front of the house in case the burglar tried to escape, and he did! The burglar was arrested and spent most of his life in jail.
